My name is Tim Alworth and I am running for Verona Board of Education. I believe that as a Verona elementary school parent, and as a teacher, I can provide a unique perspective to round out the Verona Board of Education.
I have lived in Verona for the past 10 years, although my relationship with Verona started over 20 years ago when I met my wife, a Verona native, during a Verona Summer Musical. Together we are raising 3 children in the only town that was ever a consideration for us. We knew that we wanted to raise in children in Verona because of the quality school systems and a strong sense of community.
I enjoy spending time in Verona with my family, whether it be coaching or watching my son’s sports, going to the library for story hour, taking the kids to the pool, or a walk to the park, or any of the many things there are to do in this town. There are no towns quite like Verona, and our school system is a key part of that.
I received a double major from the College of William and Mary in American Studies and Music, followed by two masters degrees in Music and Music Education. I began my teaching career with the Glen Ridge Marching Band, leading their percussion section for 17 years. While working in the music industry, I realized that education was my true passion. I left the industry and began working as a special education paraprofessional in the Glen Ridge school district before taking a position as a band director, which I have been for the past 13 years. Currently I am a middle school band director, however, I have taught at all levels, from preschool through high school. I have experience with grant writing and curriculum writing. This will be my first run for public office.
